The difference between Acute and Chronic Conditions

Acute Conditions

These always have a clearly defined beginning and end, such as a fever, a cold or a cough, food poisoning or sunstroke, and are the type of conditions covered in this book. It is important to understand that acute diseases are acute exacerbation of the underlying chronic disease in an individual. The vital force or energy, which we all possess, is constantly trying to prevent the inward march of chronic disease and to repair and maintain order within the body, protecting the innermost core and pushing disease out to the periphery. When it succeeds in doing this an acute episode will emerge. This is a good, not a bad thing, providing it is not suppressed and driven back inwards again. The future prognosis will be good if at this crucial stage homeopathic remedies are used; the homeopathic treatment stimulates the natural healing powers of the body by driving disease outwards. The individual as a whole emerges stronger having successfully driven out the disease, rather than weaker as when the disease has been suppressed by allopathic medicine.

Chronic Conditions

Chronic conditions treated by ordinary medicine, or left untreated in those who have little vitality, are recognizable by the direction they travel in; they go from a less important organ to a more important organ, from the exterior inwards and from below upwards. For instance if someone has a rheumatic condition you will often find that it starts at their knees and then travels to their hips, or it starts in their finger joints and then goes to larger joints. While chronic disease travels inwards the natural vitality of an individual is constantly trying to push chronic disease outwards and this is usually manifested by an acute episode of some kind. It is therefore particularly important not to suppress an acute illness, as that would mean going in the opposite direction to the natural healing energies of the body. It is always crucial not to suppress any discharges or eruptions as they are indications that the body is trying its best to throw out an acute illness, and to stop the insidious march inwards of chronic disease. A homeopathic remedy at this stage acts as a stimulus to the vitality to complete a true cure, going along with the natural healing processes by pushing disease outwards. Conventional medicine at this stage nearly always goes contrary to the natural healing process and drives disease back inwards. The damage of suppression is always particularly obvious in the treatment of eczema; steroid ointments heal up the skin and then within a year or so the patient develops asthma – the disease has gone from the periphery, the skin, into the lungs. Similarly the suppression of a streaming nose during a cold is nearly always followed by headaches and bunged up sinuses. These are two typical and easily observable examples of suppression. It seems to occur almost invariably as a result of allopathic treatment, which mainly involves giving medication that produces opposing symptoms to those presented by the patient, thereby going contrary to the natural healing processes of the body. If you question people carefully who have only been treated by conventional medicine, you will usually find that the illnesses they have had during their lives have become progressively more serious, affecting more inner and more important functions of the body. The results of such suppression can occur either immediately or many years later. Chronic disease, as well as health, are both on-going living processes. A diagnosis implies that the particular disease just happened to occur at that particular time out of the blue, but there is always a past aetiology (cause of the disease) and some sort of future prognosis. The past aetiology may be miasmatic weaknesses (which if left untreated by homeopathic remedies are passed on to the next generation), the toxic load of all kinds, negative thought or behavior and many other contributing factors. The future prognosis depends on whether homeopathy is used to help stimulate the body’s natural healing vitality to throw off disease, or whether allopathic medication is used which will continue the suppression of the vitality, resulting in the disease’s inevitable march inwards; this leads to even more serious complaints and more chronic disease. It is so important to realize that the way you treat yourself today reflects the health (or disease) that will affect you in the future and that the level of health you have today reflects how you (and your forebears) were treated in the past. The damaging results of suppression may well take some time to emerge but they will always do so in time.
